Theophany

(Final 40x30" Oil on Canvas) 2009/08/02

The Day of the Lord, based on Ex 19 and Mt. Rainier viewed from Seattle on my commute to work. The pillar of fire behind rainier is the morning of the resurrection with pastel colors when the Day Star rises, the lightening to the top right is the "Great and Terrible." The mountain is like sinai, cf. my Transfiguration painting, with the new creation transforming the world from the bottom right, and the bright dots are the noise from the final trumpets, as the noise in the bottom left is the regeneration of the nations (1 cor 15). The trees are based on Paradise in the NP.
